Chelsea makes history in Madrid as they defeated Atletio in champions league duel (Details, pics)

Chelsea are the first English side to beat Atletico Madrid away from home in the Champions League.

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid were on Wednesday night, September 27 defeated 2-1 by Premier League champions Chelsea in a tough Champions League game. Chelsea would have Spanish striker Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi to thank as they scored the two goals which gave Antonio Conte's men the victory at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico Madrid started the match impressive with the duo of Angel Correa and Saul Niguez tormenting Chelsea defense with flurry of attack.

But the breakthrough came for them in the 40th minute when Chelsea defender David Luiz pulled down Lucas Hernandez in the area in which the referee had no choice than to blow a penalty. Frenchman Antoine Griezmann then stepped forward to convert the penalty to the delight of all Atletico fans who were at the stands. Belgian international Eden Hazard provided a superb cross in the 60th minutes for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata to score with his head.

Chelsea fans were hoping for the match to end in a 1-1 draw before Michy Batshuayi scored the winning goal for the Blues.
