A teen immigrant from Burma has been shot and killed at the laundromat job he worked part-time to help his family pay the bills.

December Htoo, 15, was found dead at Maple Hill Laundry in Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday morning but police believe the shooting occurred on Friday night.

Classmates and teachers revealed that Htoo had arrived in Kansas City from a refugee camp in Myanmar, also known as Burma.

His mother, Ma Than, said through a translator that she and her four children left their native country during the Burmese civil war in the hopes they'd be moving to a safer place.

His friends said he was a shy child who could barely speak English when he first arrived in the US.

Now, as a sophomore at JC Harmon High School, he was well-liked and thriving.'

Somebody took a kid that was full of potential away from us, away from his family and away from his friends,' he told The Kansas City Star.

The 15-year-old was in choir and on the wrestling team. His coach, Zach Davies, said he cared about others.

His 14-year-old brother, Kyaw Wah, also told the newspaper that Htoo loved wrestling and hoped to become a professional mixed martial arts fighter.'

My brother was a great person,' Kyaw said. 'He's got no enemy... He's got great friends. Everybody loved him.'

Classmates from Harmon and others left stuffed animals, balloons and candles alongside a sign reading 'RIP December' outside the laundromat.

As of now, police have no leads as to who killed Htoo and there were no surveillance cameras inside the laundromat. They are hopeful for tips from the public to help them find Htoo's murderer.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help cover funereal costs. So far, $6,070 out of an initial $3,000 goal.
