Activist drags Buhari, AGF Malami to court over the illegal appointment of NIA Director General (Details, pics)

Activist and the convener of the Concerned Nigerians group, Deji Adeyanju has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to court over the appointment of Ahmed Rafiu Abubakar as the Director General, National Intelligence Agency.

Adeyanju, in a suit filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Adeyanju prayed the court to reverse the appointment of the NIA DG. The DG of the NIA is the third defendant after the president and AGF.

Premium times reports that the court, in a write of summon, asked the dependents to appear within 30 days of the service of the summon.

Adeyanju asked the court to determine whether by the provision of the section 14(3) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) the first defendant can appoint the second defendant (Mr. Abubakar), who is from Katsina state, as director general of the NIA when the DG of the State Security Services, Lawal Musa Daura is also from Katsina state.

He also asked the court to determine whether by the provision of the section 2(3) of the National Security Agencies Act, the 2nd defendant is a fit and proper person to be appointed as DG of NIA.

He asked the court to order the removal of Abubakar as the DG of NIA.
