After completing Laporte's deal Manchester City’s defence budget is now bigger than 16 countries in the world (Details, pics)

Manchester City signing of Aymeric Laporte for £57 million from Athetic Bilbao means they have spent more on their defense than 16 countries.

No defence line in the history of World football has ever assembled a defence line as expensive as the Premier League leaders. Man City have the second-most expensive goalkeeper in the world, two of the three most expensive centre backs in front of him and the two most costly full backs in the world.

Despite Pep Guardiola earlier saying City don’t have the spending power to keep up with the world’s biggest clubs.

The Abu Dhabi backed club have taken spending on defenders to new levels since Pep arrived at the club, Since 2016 they have spent around £300 million on six defenders.

Which means Man City’s defence budget is more than the military defence spending of 16 countries.

It is left to be seen how the financial fair play of UEFA comes in to play, but if this suggests what we are to expect in future, City are really going to bully teams with money in the summer transfer windows.
