Candidates can choose colleges, academies as first choice — JAMB (Details, pics)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that candidates sitting the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination can make either a College of Education, the Nigerian Defence Academy or the Police Academy their first choice of institution.

The JAMB, in its New Year release, said the choices were “at the discretion of the candidates.”

The board’s Spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, who appraised the 2017 admission process, noted that a key innovation was the introduction of the Central Admission Processing System.

He said, “As we prepare for the 2018 examination, beginning with the optional mock examination in January, we urge candidates to ensure that they register on time and make informed choices of institutions, disciplines and examination towns.

Benjamin gave the assurance that the 2018 UTME would not fall short of the expectations of Nigerians. "They are to note that their first choice can be a college of education, a university, an innovation enterprise institution, a polytechnic, the Nigerian Defence Academy or the Nigerian Police Academy. These choices are at the discretion of the candidates.

“In 2018, we hope to surpass our achievements in 2017. This means that we shall conduct a better examination, have a more transparent admission system and make more remittance to the Federal Government than ever.”

The JAMB, while commenting on the N8bn remittance to the government in 2017, said it was a “statutory responsibility rather than an achievement.”

“So much has been said about  the remittance of about N8billion that we made. We do not see the remittance  made to government as achievements; rather it is a statutory responsibility of the board’s leadership to act according to their oath of office.

“We will continue to do everything possible to support the drive of this administration towards excellence from our end.”
