Nigerian mom delivers baby boy inside the plane while enroute to New York (Details, pics)

Identified as Toyin Ogyndipe, A 41-year-old mother of two was on her way to New York when she went into labour a week early while 35,000 feet in the air and a few hours away from their destination. According to the story, a medical personnel was sought on the plane before the Urologist came the rescue.

According to reports, Dr Sij Hemal said he was on his way home from a friend's wedding and was actually awaiting a glass of Champagne when flight attendants asked for medical assistance over the loudspeaker. He immediately volunteered and help deliver the healthy baby boy.

Although he didn't travel with his medical kit, he was able to make do with the available medical equipment on the flight to help Toyin Ogyndipe who lives and works in the UK, safely deliver her son after 30 minutes of pushing.

According to reports, he used shoestring to tie and cut the umbilical cord for baby Jake, who now has a US passport because they were flying in US airspace.

Speaking to Daily Mail, The 27-year-old doctor said he was just glad everything went smoothly and he was also relieved it all happened before he'd had any drink.

He said: "We’re trained to stay calm and think clearly in emergency situations,’ Dr Hemal, who had delivered seven babies during his training, told Daily Mail Online. ‘I just tried to think ahead to what might go wrong and come up with a creative solution."

According to him, his biggest fear was loosing to mother to excess bleeding or as a result of shock. However , when the flight attendants came to ask him for advice, he discovered he was seated next to Dr Stefanie Ortolan, a pediatrician from France.

The pair were ushered over to help Ogundipe who was complaining of chest pains and dizziness. Dr Hemal thought it could be kidney stones until she revealed to him that she was 39 weeks pregnant. According to him, she was covered with a blanket so he couldn't see that she was pregnant, but the pain she was describing sounded like contractions.

However, since the young offspring is in a US plane heading to New York when he was given birth to, He is a citizen of America.
