Australian Open defending champion Roger Federer beat Marin Cilic to retain the men’s singles title in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.

The Switzerland  born superstar is now the first man to win 20 Grand Slam titles.

Federer, who won the competition a year ago, has equalled Novak Djokovic and Roy Emerson on six Australian Open titles.

The Swiss defeated the Croat in a thrilling 3 hours 3mins five match set of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to claim the crown.

The 36-year-old is the oldest finalist in Melbourne since Ken Rosewall, 37, and Mal Anderson, 36, met 46 years ago.

Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday claimed her first major Grand slam women’s title on Saturday following an excellent victory over Simona Halep.

Roger becomes the first man to win 20 Grand Slams.
