I did not say any money was swallowed by a snake" - Suspended JAMB worker (Details, pics)

Philomena Chieshe, a staff of the JAMB fingered in the missing N36 million which was reported to have been swallowed by a snake, has said that the exam body only made up the snake story to cover up for the disappearance of the money.

Chieshe speaking during an interview conducted by CNN, accused JAMB of turning her in to authorities, who she claims still haven't questioned her about the missing funds."I did not say any money was swallowed by a snake. Nobody questioned me about that case. I am just a clerk and I serve under directors who are accounting officers. I wonder why they are personalizing the case?" Chieshe told CNN.

It was learnt that Chieshe explained in her statement that a “mystery snake” sneaked into JAMB accounts office and made away with the N36 million cash.

The money was said to be from the purchases of scratch cards from JAMB state offices and other designated centres. However, in the course of interrogation, Chieshe reportedly changed the narrative, saying that it was her housemaid who connived with another woman, Joan Asen, to “spiritually steal the money” from the vault in the accounts office.

We previously reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has begun investigating a sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe , who claimed a mystery snake sneaked into the account office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Makurdi, the Benue state capital and swallowed N36m.

The anti-graft agency in a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 13, said it was probing the matter and would keep Nigerians updated.
