A former chairman of the Lagos state branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Akanni Olorunwa has been arrested for alleged murder by the inspector general of police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Olorunwa’s arrest follows the capture of one Adeola Williams, also known as Ade Lawyer, reports says.

Williams is reported to have been on the watch list of the police for various allegations including assassinations of some people in the southwest.

The suspected assassin was arrested by the police three weeks after he allegedly murdered one Ganiyu Ayinla, the personal assistant of Azeez Adekunle Lawal, chairman of the NURTW in Lagos Island. Upon interrogation, Williams confessed to the assassination of Ganiyu Ayinla in Lagos and numerous other assassinations in the southwest part of the country.

He further confessed that the former NURTW boss hired him to assassinate Lawal for N1.5 million and was given N500,000 as advance payment.

He was supposed to be given the balance of N1 million after the job was completed but they failed to kill their target and mistakenly shot his personal assistant, as they were both in the same car.

Having failed with the assignment, Akanni was said to have refused to give him the balance of N1 million as agreed.

Following William's confessional statement, Akanni was arrested at 3:00 pm on Thursday, February 15, in Ebute Metta area of Lagos by IRT operatives.
