Mourners in Siruti village, Awendo sub county were left flabbergasted after family members of the deceased engaged in fist fight over burial plans.
The fight broke out after the biological mother of the deceased 13-year-old girl was denied opportunity to partake in the girl's burial plans. The girls's father Charles Obange and his alleged second wife had refused to involve her mother in the burial arrangement.
The man refused to involve, Evelyn Adhiambo in her daughter's burial plans since they had separated earlier, a decision which divided the family members.
Adhiambo said: “My husband and my co-wife refused to involve me in the burial arrangement of my daughter, I could not just stay away from my daughter’s burial."
Church leaders who were to preside over the funeral led by Bishop Julius Wasongo Okelo of Mowar Roho Israel were not spared either as they were assaulted and chased from the home.
Okello said: “We are disappointed and ask the family to iron out their issued before the girl is buried. We will be back then."Police were forced to intervene and took the body back to the morgue for the family members to agree on settling the issue first.
A family kin, Obanje Oluoch, who talked to the media condemned his relatives decision saying they were talking to him into constructing a house for the lady according to their cultural beliefs.
The kin said: “The decision he took to deny the other woman, whom he had culturally married, her rights despite being left was unfortunate. We will not entertain such skewed decision which will bring bad omen to the family."
